Moodboard | Evolve of Rattan

We love rattan furniture! Did you know there is a lot of history behind it too?

Rattan furniture has been around for much longer than you may think. This material was harvested because of its strength and malleability. These two advantages make it perfect for crafting furniture. While it is often referred to as wicker, the actual material is rattan and wicker is the weaving pattern.

There is also a difference between bamboo and rattan. Bamboo is hollow in the middle, which makes it more susceptible to cracking and breaking, whereas rattan is rattan all the way through. This adds to the strength of the material for furniture building as well. So much to learn about this beautiful furniture!

While I am scrolling through Instagram, I have seen more and more used rattan furniture at their home. I am amazed by how rattan chair and basket that we usually see have evolved to more function and shape. It is very hard for us to own rattan furniture as it is usually big and bulky. However, recently there are more light and minimalist designed furniture in the market. Where it caters to people who owned a smaller house.

Would you like to own a piece of rattan furniture?

xoxo, Joe
