Most of the time when thinking of Valentine’s Day, the majority will automatically go to romantic love between significant others, but what about the love shared between best girlfriends? And, on such day there are still plenty of ways to celebrate. While, Valentine’s Day means much more than hearts, chocolates, and roses. The affection they feel on that day extends beyond lovers to their close friends and family too.
Both Angela and I thought of put together some fun ideas so that you can enjoy this love-filled holiday with your friends, best friends or even your family. After all, there are plenty of ways to spread the love on February 14th, whether you’re in a relationship or not. So after much consideration, we decided to have Valentine’s Day Friendship Brunch.
Enjoying an afternoon tea while perched on a gilded hotel armchair is a fine British tradition, but hardly sustainable as a regular pursuit. Throwing your own brunch party means you can stick to your own budget, plus you can select your favorite finger food. Therefore, let’s get started!
Start by extending your table and throw on a table cloth. In a few weeks back, we got a few crates from a garage. We went on fabricating it but sanding away the rough surface. End it with our very own lace tablecloth on. This help to create an English and vintage atmosphere. Pop some cushion on the ground and you are all good to go for your next preparation.
Most importantly in the brunch party is to have a centerpiece for your table. For us we owned a 2 tiered cake stand in pink and polka dots. Otherwise, use your best crockery and make it a little more special with lace-like doilies, folded napkins and name place signs. On our 2 tiered cake stand, we have a variety of savory and sweets on it.
On the bottom tiered we have made – Orange and Cranberry Tea Sandwiches, Ham Tea Sandwiches and also English Cucumber Sandwiches. The sandwiches are cut into small pieces, it allow everyone to have bites of everything and yet not getting tired of having it.
On the top tiered it consist of the sweets – Mini Fruit Tarts and also Buttercream Lemon Cupcakes. What is a brunch party without bright and yummy fruits? Thus we headed to the market in the morning to grab some fresh one. The Mini Fruit Tarts recipe opened up my eyes to the adorable-ness that are little tarts made with cookie crusts using a muffin tin. This little dull is so easy, crunchy and creamy to be made. I couldn’t resist them at all.
Even though, this may not be the first time we made this Lemon cupcake. Yet, it’s the first time we created this buttercream recipe. There are different types of buttercream, however, we felt that the Swiss Meringue Buttercream works best for this recipe.
Besides, don’t forget your teapot, teacups, cutlery and cake slices for serving. For a modern girl like us, we used jar and glasses for this hot afternoon to serve our Mandarin Orange Juice. Since it is Chinese New Year season thus we have lots of leftover Mandarin Orange. Adding lemon juice and mint into this drink just simply make the afternoon a refreshing one.
“Do you feel like something is missing? Hmmm.. I think you forget to mention about Scones. Why isn’t it on your tiered cake stand?” Don’t worry that’s the first thing that came to our mind when we mention about brunch party. It doesn’t take long to whip up but if you want to get ahead, freeze a batch and defrost them in a low oven. Serve warm with lashings of jam – decant a pot of homemade preserve into a pretty bowl. Not forgetting the clotted cream. Ending the preparation with a cheese, ham and sausage platter and our party is all good to go.
This may sound like you’re going to have a hectic preparation for that day. But no, most of them you could make it days ahead. Just a few touch-up and simply wear your perfect dress and enjoy the rest of the afternoon. If you do also wish to give your friend a little gift, wrap our Valentine’s Rosa Bath bombs up into small packages with a name tag along with it. Perfect isn’t it?
We hope you like them! Share with us your very own Valentine! Take a photo of yours, send us an email, tag us on Instagram, tweet us, anything. We love to see yours!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
xoxo, Joe.
