Mood Board | Burning Red

Red is the favourite colour of Chinese New Year, as it holds a special meaning and it is auspicious when you use it during the festive period. However, not many like the colour red in their everyday lifestyles and it is too bold. However, it is always great to add in some red to celebrate the festival. Here are the top 3 “accessories” we like to use for our house to give the festival a quick change.

Paper umbrella
It is not your usual umbrella, these paper umbrellas are widely used in the olden days. While we never use them now, it is a good prop during the festival. Fine one that is red in colour, you can decorate in ink to the design that you like.

Lantern
The lantern has always been one of the must-have decorations during this festival, and it is can be commonly found and obtained in many shops located in Singapore. It comes in many colours and shapes and is one item that can be easily stored after the occasion as it is foldable.

Couplet
Couplet usually comes in a pairs, where “lucky words” are written on them. You can write your wishes of the year with ink in black or gold on the pieces of red paper. While you can get it anywhere during the Chinese New Year period, it is also a great activity you can do with your kid.

Is red a must-have colour for you during the Chinese New Year?

xoxo, Joe
