A thought movement that starts with the way we live, then expands to encompass the home, is kinfolk. Similar in aesthetic to Bohemian-inspired and Scandinavian styles, kinfolk holds the goal of living more simply at its heart. Built around the philosophy of ‘slow living’, the trend and surrounding community gain their name from the magazine of the same name.
Slow living, according to the movement’s official website, is a “self explanatory” answer to the fast, stress-inducing lifestyles we live in the modern world. Translated into the home, kinfolk thought seems to be mostly expressed in practice through minimalism, upcycling and hygge-style decor. But seriously. There are some nice things about the kinfolk ideals, such as creativity, authenticity, reducing waste, and having a smaller footprint on the planet. So if kinfolk appeals to you, here are a few ways you can incorporate it in your home and life.
